i wasn't completely unfa miliar with FFFFOUND.com because some people i follow on tumblr had tumblogged images from FFFFOUND! before but i was recently enlightend thanks to a podcast i started watching. i recently subscribed to a new show with patrick norton and jessica corbin on revison3 called tekzilla and here's what jessica had to say about FFFFOUND...
"Code Red is where Jessica tells you about her latest obsession... this week it's FFFFOUND!.com, a neat little place on the Internet where you can post and share your favorite images. The service also has the ability to recommend images it thinks you'll like based on your interests. This isn't another Flickr clone. The makers call it "an inspirational image-bookmarking experience!!" Jessica agrees."
FFFFOUND! is in private beta but i was able to snag an invite thanks to invitetrader.net (although the site seems to be down as i write this). i've just started using the site and there are definitely some interesting images available on the service. the recommended images is a nice feature.
i've always had a flickr account but never really put much effort into uploading content to the site. i think the original intent was to allow immediate family and friends overseas to easily see photos of the girls as they were growing up but it became apparent that most of our target audience wasn't very internet savvy and therefore not likely to view the pics on flickr. a flickr usage revival was considered when this vox blog was started because of the easy tie-in between vox and flickr but alas it was just as easy to upload the photos directly to vox and not bother with the flickr account (yeah, vox!). now we're in the midst of a potential serious affliction to flickr. it all started with the use of the iphone. one of the reasons i hadn't bothered with flickr is that i usually didn't spend a lot of time managing my photo library. new images from the digital camera would be uploaded to the computer to be archived and for the wife to choose the pics she wanted to order prints of. usually when i get computer time after the girls are down for the night i have plenty of things to do other than going through my photo library. the iphone and the use of a smart album in iphoto has changed that behavior. i've got the smart album set up to pull photos from the last 30 days and this is the album that gets synced to my iphone. now with these latest photos on my iphone i can review the pics without being tethered to my computer and i can easily upload pics to flickr directly from the iphone. as an added bonus the pictures i send to flickr from my iphone are resized to a web friendly 640x480 (either when they are synced from computer to the iphone or in cases where i'm sending pictures taken with the iphone the mail app appears to resize them) which keeps my flickr bandwidth usage down. as a side effect i'm finding myself trying to spend some time going through older photos to upload to flickr using the flickr uploader (since it has the option to resize the photos automatically) so that i can create some interesting photo sets.
i was recently invite to a check out a profile and content aggregator service call spokeo. here's a portion the invite i had received...
"Spokeo is not just a profile aggregator, but also a content aggregator. Other than identity aggregation, Spokeo tracks your friends' blogs, pictures, and videos across 21 social networks (and RSS/Atom feeds of course). This way, you can better connect with your friends."
overall its a pretty well done service. some of the features like the initial setting up of accounts to your profile could use some work to make it easier and the look of the site could use some sprucing up. its funny though. livejournal (a sixapart property) is one of the choices of social networks you can add to your profile but vox is not. not to worry though, you can easily add the rss feed from any vox user onto your spokeo profile page.
check it out!
