i had been using
backpack from
37signals.com as a way to keep track of notes but wasn't really actively using it since it was really only a web-based tool. recently i had heard about
evernote which is in beta and signed up. got my invite a couple of weeks ago and started using the service. what i like about evernote is that it has desktop apps for both mac and windows that nicely syncs your notes with the web-based service. this is great for me since i'm forced to use windows at the office and we use a mac at home. you can also send notes to the service via email so its easy to snap pics of things i want to remember and mail them to evernote for later access via the web or by syncing it with the desktop client. so far i'm impressed and i'll be moving my backpack notes over to evernote.
there's also one feature that i haven't really experienced yet. there's apparently a server-based image processing queue (for text recognition) which then allows you to search your notes for keywords found via the text recognition.
what is evernote?webware coverage - "a tool for lazy slobs"
at this point i've still got some invites left if anyone is interested in giving the service a try...leave a comment on this post (include your email or send me a DM).
